Terms of service

Qalami drafts marks and written feedback on pupils’ handwritten work. A teacher photographs or scans the pages, chooses the rubric, and the software produces a draft. It is a tool for teachers and is not sold to or used by pupils.

No mark is ever final until a teacher approves it. The AI drafts; a person decides, and the system records who accepted or changed each mark.

Teachers and staff at a school that has been given access, signing in with their school email address. Any teacher at the school’s email domain can sign up and joins the same school automatically. Accounts are for the named person and should not be shared.

You are responsible for having the right to upload the work you upload, and for the relationship with the pupils and parents whose work it is.

A trial runs for a fixed period from the day the first teacher at the school signs up, with an agreed allowance of papers and a ceiling on model costs. Both are set per school and can be raised before you start if the class you want to try it on is larger. Every feature is included; a trial is not a cut-down version.

There is no card and no payment details. Nothing quietly begins charging, and there is nothing to cancel.

This is the part worth reading, and it is deliberately not a cliff.

1. The account becomes read-only. No new marking runs. Everything already marked stays exactly where it is and stays readable.
2. You have 90 days to take a copy. Ask and you get a single archive containing every record and every scan, in a form your IT team can open without our software. It is your data; you should not need our permission or our continued goodwill to hold it.
3. After that we delete it, including the scans and the sign-in accounts, and we keep a dated record that the deletion happened.

If you subscribe at any point in that window, nothing is lost and nothing changes.

In short: scans of pupils’ work are deleted 90 days after a teacher approves the marking, only your own teachers can see your data and the database enforces that rather than a setting we could get wrong, and we do not use pupil work to train AI models or sell anything to anyone.

If your school needs a signed data processing agreement, and most procurement processes will, ask and we will provide one for your legal advisers rather than pointing you at a web page.

The service is provided as it is. AI-drafted marking can be wrong, which is why a teacher approves every mark before it counts, and why the review screen shows the scan alongside what was read. Do not use it as the sole basis for a decision about a pupil.

We aim to keep the service available and your data safe, and the measures we actually take are described in the privacy notice. We do not offer a service level guarantee during a trial.

You can stop using Qalami at any time and ask us to delete everything; deletion covers the scans, the marks, the reports and the sign-in accounts. We may suspend an account that is being used to upload work the school has no right to upload, or in a way that puts other schools’ data at risk.
